Chile's first woman president, Michelle Bachelet, arrived at the Hyatt  ahead of the official opening of the Fifth Summit of the Americas. Bachelet, who was sworn in on March 11th 2006, went directly to the hotel to join her political counterparts. The start of the opening ceremony was delayed slightly to accommodate the arrival of all attending Heads of State.
