is the collective message from the Latin
American countries represented at the
Fifth Summit of the Americas first
plenary session, which focused on human
prosperity.

Bachelet spoke of the burden on Latin
America’s poorest people due to the global financial
crisis and called for a change in the
status quo. Hugo Chavez, during his presentation expressed his
desire for Havana to host to the next
Summit of the Americas. CARICOM leaders also played a
significant role.
US President Barack Obama described
his continuous efforts to stabilize the
banking sector and create new investment opportunities,
equal partnership, better health care
and education
and to assist those countries
most affected by the downturn.
